I was able to (after following your steps) get a working vistape going with WDE drivers and successfully open up an encrypted drive to copy files out. Now if only I could transfer that boot cd into a PXE boot image I would be like the proverbial swine in sewage...

Thanks again...Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10929500365618748458noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13777170.post-48833814886877768842009-09-09T16:48:12.902-05:002009-09-09T16:48:12.902-05:00@ xanderphillips - If you are speaking specificall...@ xanderphillips - If you are speaking specifically regarding the PGP company's WDE product the answer is a resounding "YES!"

I haven't done the work with it for other WDE products, though TrueCrypt should be supportable as well with little issue.

See this final post on the build and work your way backwards to get familiar with the process.

Custom Win PE Boot Disk Building: Step Four – Pulling it all together. -- GSD Blog

Just last week I had to capture an image of a PGP-WDE Windows system. I booted with this custom disk, entered the WDRT via the command-line as detailed in that post, and then the physical drive "appeared" 100% unencrypted to the Win PE OS.

I was then able to use another "portable" application to take a RAW (dd or IMG) sector image of the physical drive to an external USB drive.

When I later mounted that image file as a virtual physical drive on my primary OS, all the files were in the clear (unencrypted).

You could also selectively just copy/paste files as needed off if you don't need the entire system.

We use it lots in our shop and it works great.

I've actually made my own carry version as a USB boot flash stick (rather than CD). This is even faster booting and lets me copy apps/data as needed to execute in the Win PE enviro.

Cheers!

--Claus V.Claushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11692921474310162470noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13777170.post-44532295474527412672009-09-09T11:47:06.730-05:002009-09-09T11:47:06.730-05:00So with this boot cd, can you recover files from a...So with this boot cd, can you recover files from a WDE drive without having to go through the painful act of decrypting then entire volume?
